Man Utd lacking ‘killer instinct’, claims Fernandes after derby draw

Bruno Fernandes regretted a lack of “murderer instinct” after Manchester United played a 0-0 draw with Manchester City.

A free dedby did not succeed in sparking in Old Trafford on Sunday, because City missed a chance to go back to the top four of the Premier League.

Neither of the parties threatened with some regularity, with United 0.92 gathering expected goals and the city only 0.49.

The best chance of the competition, however, was demonstrable to the United replacement Joshua Zirkzee, which was refused by a nice Edererson Save.

And Fernandes feels that United had the lead and Sky Sports told: “Happy with the performance, but not the result – we want to win games, we need points in the competition, we are aware of it. We played against a very good side. I think the game was there for both parties.

“I think we were a little more dangerous, created more opportunities, but we needed more of the murderous instinct to get the goals. We had too many opportunities and we had to get one.

“You have to be patient against City. I think we did so well today, very well organized, but that murderer Instinct missed a bit, but we have created many opportunities.

“I was not worried about the defensive organization or the speed of the team that deteriorated or insists – if we have played large teams, we have shown that.

“The problem is sometimes when we think we are the better team, and we don't do it in the same way as we should. We grow in it, and the manager says that if he doesn't see us suffer, that means we don't give 100%.

“Today we did it, but we have to go on – not just before the end of the season, but everything that comes next.”

Since the first match of Ruben Amorim who was in charge of United, only Leicester City (12) have not scored in more Premier League matches than the Red Devils (eight).

United only generated one big chance, although they had 29 touches in the penalty area of the city, with eight of their 13 shots from the box.

“If we continue to do what we have done today, with scoring goals, we will be close,” added Fernandes, who created a game leading three opportunities.

“If we relax and think it's enough, we'll go back. The most important thing is to do this consistently.”

Sunday's collision also marked the last Manchester Derby of Kevin De Bruyne's city career – The Belgian has confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

“He made the Premier League better,” Fernandes said about his midfield counterpart. “City has won many trophies during this period. It is also because of Kevin De Bruyne. He deserves a lot of praise.

“He has had a fantastic 10 years in the Premier League, he has done a lot. Kevin always stays in world class.

“It was a pleasure to see him so close, it was a pleasure to play against him, and he will stay in the history of the Premier League, not just Man City.”
