Roy Keane suggested that Manchester United looked “like a couple of strangers” during their late FA Cup victory on Leicester City on Friday.
Harry Maguire scored a controversial winner of 93 minutes and planted the free kick of Bruno Fernandes outside Mads Hermansen from an offside position, where the goal could be because VAR was not in operation.
In the first half, Bobby de Cordova-Reid had given the Foxes only for replacement Joshua Zirkzee to level the scores in Old Trafford in the 68th minute.
United had to wait until the 65th minute to register their first shot on Doel, with Alejandro Garnacho saw his efforts disappear from the line by Caleb Okoli.
The victory of Friday saw the Red Devils remain unbeaten in their last 19 home games in the FA Cup and won 17 of them (D2), but Keane quickly looked at the deeper problems.
United has indeed sent 32 goals in all competitions in 20 games, because the first match of Ruben Amorim was in charge, on average 1.6 goals per match.
Only Tottenham (36), Southampton (35) and Leicester (34) have admitted more goals under Premier League parties than the Red Devils at this time.
“United came out of prison,” said Keane on ITV. 'Don't be misled for it.
“You have to praise them – Manchester United is in the next round of the cup – but if they keep performing like that … the performance itself was not long enough.
“The subs made a difference. They played much more direct and more forward passes, but they should do more. They drove their happiness.”
Amorim said after the game that he was happy with the result, but not with the performance, with Premier League wrestling players playing Leicester well at Old Trafford.
Although the Foxes have only managed a total of 0.9 of their six shots (XG), they could sometimes easily cut through United, something that Keane started to emphasize in his analysis.
“The manager is clearly frustrated by the performance. He said he has no energy, that's the bit of that I don't understand,” Keane added.
“Anyway about the tactics and players who try to settle and lack of trust, but you have to play with energy.
“Your starting point must be energy and enthusiasm, and then you take it from there. If you have no energy, it doesn't matter which system you play, you get close to nobody.
“It's all good and good playing, but you have to close people. Leicester got a lot of joy.
“We have seen two bad teams there tonight. Every team with a little more quality than Leicester would have done the job. United drove their happiness.”
