Gary Neville says that Manchester United is in a “desperate situation” after Ruben Amorim's side was beaten 4-1 on Sunday by Newcastle.
United capitulated in the second half in St James' Park when she was a 14th Premier League defeat of the season members, Harvey Barnes struck twice after Alejandro Garnacho had canceled the opener of Sandro Tonali, with Bruno Guimaraes that the late goal.
The defeat leaves Man Utd 14th in the table, only three points above West Ham in the 17th, and they will be guaranteed to end with their lowest points ever in the Premier League.
Neville from Sky Sports, who spoke on NBC Sports, gave a brutal judgment about the current United Squad and said that there is no shortage of the players' efforts, but that they are required “under the standard and quality” at Manchester United.
“I said at the start of the game that if Newcastle plays well, Man Utd is defeated,” said Neville.
“They are not a very good team, it's as simple as that.
“The biggest concern is that there have been teams in the last five, six, seven years at Man Utd, where you thought they are all talented players, but they don't give everything to it.
“The problem with this group of players that they give everything. There is no shortage of trouble. They are in no time under the standard and quality that you need at that football club, everywhere on the field.
“Apart from Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo, maybe none of them can think of what I would hang on my hat.
“It is a really desperate situation because the team is so bad of quality. They have old players and they have young players who are nowhere in the area. It is a worrying situation.”
'The system is a problem'
Neville has also asked the Amorim system, which suggests that Man Utd does not currently have the players who are needed to play how their Portuguese boss wants, and he does not see how that changes quickly without time and better recruitment.
Neville added: “The system is a problem.
“I asked this question for about two months, who are the natural wingbacks? Players who are good in the future, who have a lot of energy and who are good enough to go back. Who are those players?
“Who are these two players he plays behind the rush? They need a Center-Forward that is going to wear the line. Who is that player who is available to Man Utd, because there are seven or eight teams at the top of the competition who also has a striker.
“These are huge problems.”
“To be honest, you don't know where to start, you don't know where to build the first step, and that is the problem at the moment.
“A serious amount of time is needed and good recruitment for that club to get good.”
Keane: Man Utd is not good at anything
Roy Keane also did not bump on Super Sunday, but his summary was simple when he rated United's performance in St James' Park.
“You look at certain teams in the Premier League and you hang your hat on certain things – they are big and strong or they are technically brilliant. You look at Liverpool, they check many boxes,” he said.
“But you look at United, what would you hang your hat on? What would you say they are really good at? They don't have a world -class striker, they don't have a strong spine, they are not athletic.
“I'm not sure what they are good at. They are not really good at anything. They have a number of half -quality players, but the table doesn't lie.”
Keane suggested signing players without Premier League experience, United had not served well.
“I don't want to use the dreaded word: recruitment. Do they get players in this summer?” He went on.
“The majority of the players they have brought in in the past year or two are not used to the Premier League. You have to get a number of players who are used to the Premier League, who have played 100, 200 games.
“You hope that you get quality players in United, the money they have spent, but get the right characters; Liverpool look at it, Brentford, Bournemouth. Of course they have to be able to play and play at the highest level, but this group does not show that.
“They are not robust. They don't roll up their sleeves and dig out the results.
“Every now and then they do that, and they will pick up a good result as they did in Man City and they got a draw in Liverpool. But then other teams recently went to Old Trafford, each team gets a little joy. Against Newcastle in the second half there were just gaps through United. United seems not even big and strong.”
