Manchester United will play two money-spinning friendly matches after the season in Malaysia and Hong Kong when the Premier League ends in May.
And Ruben Amorim's team gets a short break before going to the United States for a tour before the start of next season.
Their decision follows in the footsteps of Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, who made the widespread decision to visit Australia for a one -off friendly friendship at the end of last season.
The moment the RECORD goal scorer Alan Shearer of the Premier League described it as “madness” at a time when players and managers complain about an increased workload that leads to injuries.
“Can you imagine that you are a player who plays in the Copa America or Euro 2024 should do that? Madness. Crazy,” Shearer told Match of the Day.
“I wouldn't be happy at all. It's strange that Newcastle will play traces on Wednesday evening and then another match.”
But United's decision comes in a week in which they confirmed that a maximum of 200 employees are made superfluous as part of cost -saving measures.
Amorim has said that his under -performing team, who are 15th in the table and organizing the city of Ipswich on Wednesday evening, has to be blamed.
“We have to tackle all the problems in the club, but an important piece of the moment is to understand how we achieve this situation,” Amorim said.
“It has a lot to do with the lack of success of the football team because we are the engine of every football club.”
United has lost money in each of the last five seasons and their current absence of the Champions League costs them a high amount of eight digits.
The club has an important fan base in both Malaysia and Hong Kong. They also count Malaysia Airlines as their commercial aviation partner. They last visited Malaysia in 2009, Hong Kong in 2013.
