Man Utd player’s agent confirms January transfer window stance

The agent of Manchester United winger Antony claims there have been “multiple approaches” for the Brazilian's signature.

Antony, 24, became United's most expensive signing of all time when he joined from Ajax for £86 million in the summer of 2022. After a bright start, scoring on his debut against Arsenal, the right winger has endured a largely torrid spell. period at Old Trafford.

This year he has failed to score a goal in the Premier League or Europa League, with his only goal of the campaign coming from the penalty spot in the 7-0 defeat of League One side Barnsley in the League Cup. He has spent most of the season on the bench and is yet to start a Premier League game.

With further changes expected under Ruben Amorim, Antony is expected to be one of the first to be shipped. That moment could come as early as the January transfer period, his agent acknowledges.

In an interview with Give Me Sport, Antony's agent Junior Pedroso said: “Yes, many clubs have approached us about Antony's move in January. These clubs wanted to understand the situation for Antony, so I can confirm that there is concrete interest.”

Antony arrived in Erik ten Hag's first transfer window and was considered one of the key players the Dutchman wanted. As a result of his huge price tag, Antony was often seen as one of the key symbols of Ten Hag's rapid collapse at United, following a promising campaign in which they finished third and won the League Cup.

However, Pedroso still believes there is a future for Antony at Old Trafford. He said: “To be honest, Manchester United have never shown any interest in selling or loaning Antony to us.

“Until now we have never received this type of communication. Man United management has never told us that they want Antony to leave, despite the reports we see around about our client.”

He added: “I can say that Antony's future is strongly linked to the interests of Manchester United. If the club thinks it would be a good idea to loan Antony in January so that he can get more minutes and can regain his trust, we will work together.” on that option.

“Otherwise, Antony is working hard to regain his place and show his best skills under new coach Ruben Amorim.”

The arrival of Amorim immediately pushed Antony further up the pecking order, as the Portuguese boss's 3-4-3 automatically means that there is at least one less space for an attacker.

Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo and Joshua Zirkzee usually compete for the inside-forward position, while Rasmus Hojlund was the first-choice centre-forward.

Antony's last goal in the Premier League came in the 1-1 home draw against Burnley in April. His last goal before that came in April 2023, when United defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the City Ground.
