Man Utd plot transfer raid on Premier League rivals to solve problem position

Manchester United want to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri this month while Ruben Amorim pushes for reinforcements in January.

The Red Devils have had a torrid season and are currently thirteenth in the Premier League under Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag in November after the Dutchman paid the price for United's poor form.

United do not have the money to overhaul the squad in the current transfer window, but Amorim has identified the left-back as one part of the squad that needs strengthening. And Ait-Nouri, 23, is seen as a viable target.

As The Independent revealed, United are fans of the attacking full-back, who has impressed in a Wolves team that has also struggled this season. The Algeria international would likely cost less than Nuno Mendes, another United target.

It is said that Paris Saint-Germain will not allow 22-year-old Mendes to leave for less than 60 million euros this month. That amount exceeds United, who would also have to absorb the Portuguese international's significant salary.

Ait-Nouri has shown that he can play as a left back as well as a full-back. His adaptability is said to be appreciated by Amorim, who has been forced to deploy Diogo Dalot at left wing-back while Luke Shaw is injured.

Tyrell Malacia, United's other senior left-back, is rumored to be closing in on a loan move from Old Trafford after putting his own injury problems behind him.

United, who are also interested in Ait-Nouri's team-mate Matheus Cunha, are expected to look to offload players this month in a bid to free up funds for Amorim, who has yet to sign a contract since succeeding Ten Hag.

Marcus Rashford is one player likely to leave. He has been left out of United's recent matchday squads and has openly admitted he wants a new challenge with a move abroad on the cards. Antony is another player who could leave on loan, with Real Betis in talks over a move.

Casmiro has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte impressing as midfield partners under Amorim. It is well known that the former Real Madrid star is one of United's highest earners, so taking him off the payroll would likely appeal to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club's power brokers.
