Ollie Watkins has become a target for Manchester United after losing his place to Marcus Rashford in recent weeks, with the decisions of Unai Emery who play in Ruben Amorim's hands
Manchester United is considering using Marcus Rashford in a shock change deal that would see them signing Arsenal Transfer -target Ollie Watkins. Rashford, 27, spent the second half of the season with Villa, who have an option of £ 40 million to buy it permanently.
The International of England has impressed Villa boss Unai Emery, so much so that he started both Champions League quarter-final games against Paris Saint-Germain. His belief in Rashford has been at the expense of Watkins, where the striker only started one of the previous six games of Villa before they organized Newcastle on Saturday.
Watkins responded to his recall with a goal and an assist in a statement of 4-1 victory, as a result of which Villa's opportunities to finish in the top five. The 29-year-old was the subject of an £ 60 million from Arsenal in the January transfer star, but Emery and Co. Held stuck and chose to sell Jhon Duran.
Now that the summer is approaching, United is ready to test the determination of Villa. The Daily Star report that Chiefs Old Trafford would consider offering Rashford Plus a considerable cash payment in exchange for Watkins.
Although it is unlikely that he will match his count of 27 goals from last season, Watkins has still taken this period 16 in all competitions. The former Brentford star also made himself a hero for England and scored the winner against the Netherlands in a stopping time of their Euro 2024 semi-final collision.
United makes a joint attempt to sign a striker this summer, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee score only 15 goals between them so far. The Liam Delap from Ipswich is said to be the number1 -target of Ruben Amorim, but the Red Devils will be confronted with competition from the Premier League and maybe have to run.
Despite the fact that he is under contract until 2028, the future of Watkins has been the subject of speculation. He even told Emery that he was 'messy' after he started neither of them against PSG before Villa was closely eliminated.
Watkins said to Sky Sports after she had beaten Newcastle: “Champions League, we have introduced a lot of hard transplant in recent years to achieve that position. I played for 20 minutes against PSG in both games, so I am not going to lie – I was turbulent that I didn't play. I told him at the end of the day.
“But I am not one of the players who like to sit on the couch. It is something that I have never experienced before and to miss the biggest stage, you always want to play, especially in the Champions League.
“Me and a few others are disappointed that we did not start the game, but as I said, it is the decision of the manager. We finally beat them, but clearly not in both feet. The team played very well, but I wanted to stand on the field for much longer. I wanted to start in the important games because I played a major role to get to today.”
