Man Utd ready to rival Man City for signing of second Sporting Lisbon star

Manchester United is interested in signing another of the former sporting Lisbon players from Ruben Amorim, although they look to miss a deal for Viktor Gyokees

Manchester United will try to compete with Manchester City for the signature of the sporty Lisbon midfielder, Morten Hjulmand before the summer is out.

Both clubs remain on the market for quality attendants prior to the new Premier League campaign and would like to sign Hjulmand, 26, from Sporting. But they are not the only ones who like to keep the Danish midfielder, who has also been important from Juventus.

A new report from Abola outlines that United belongs to the teams with a live interest in signing Hjulmand this summer.

Both United and City will know everything about Hjulmand because of Ruben Amorim and Hugo Viana who both worked with the player at Sporting.

But a sticky price for both teams could be the asking price of the midfielder, whereby Sport is determined to accept nothing less than the release clause of € 80 million (£ 69.2 million).

The report outlines that position has already detected the interest from Juventus, who had tried to conclude a deal worth € 30 million-40 million through intermediaries.

Hjulmand is the second sports player with which Manchester United is associated with this week in the midst of claims in the Portuguese press that they were close to the hijacking of Arsenal's Swoop for Viktor Gyokeres.

But while Amorim has made no secret of his admiration for Gyokeres – and would like to reunite with him in Manchester – the Sweden International only goes up in conversations with Arsenal.

United is expected to focus on a new striker after completing a deal for Bryan Mbeumo, which must be officially unveiled on Monday.

However, Gyokees is arsenal -bound unless there is something drastic in the coming days. The Gunners and Sporting have to be again about the last details of a financial package for the striker, who plundered a remarkable 54 goals last season.

The player may have put his heart on a move to Arsenal, but Frederico Varandas, the President of Sport, remains on it that he will not leave cheaply. “If they do not want to pay Viktor's real market value, we will be very comfortable there for the next three years,” he said recently.

“This strategy also makes it more complicated for the player to leave. Nobody is above the interests of the club. Whoever they are. We are calm. Everything will be solved with the market closing, a big fine and an apology to the group.”
