Barcelona is linked this summer to a move for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford and he might be in a fantastic position to seal a move to Catalonia
The chances of Marcus Rashford to move to Barcelona have improved after Nico Williams has sensationally rejected a transfer. The Athletic Bilbao star was strongly connected this summer to a switch to Catalonia.
Barcelona had identified him as a prime target this summer, which revealed that they were considering paying a release clause of £ 50 million in his contract. But the move is now off the table after Williams Pen put on paper on a beautiful new deal with his boys' club.
Williams, 22, has signed a new 10-year contract with Bilbao that will extend his stay at the club to at least 2035. The new deal has also seen the release of Williams by 50% to around £ 75 million.
Speaking after his new contract was announced, he said: “When decisions have to be made, for me, weighs the most. I am where I want to be, with my people, this is my home. Aupa Athletic!”
In the meantime, Bilbao has even sweetened the deal by offering Williams the iconic number 10 shirt of the club. Speaking of the switch, he said: “It looks great. I think it was great. It was Muniain's number. I asked him for it. I am proud to get this number 10 shirt from Muniain. And to write history as he did.”
And although Barcelona remains frustrated by the news that Williams will not sign for the club, it may see them to alternative goals. Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has already been associated with a move to Spain.
United Chiefs expect Rashford to leave this summer after his fall-out with Ruben Amorim. A switch to the Premier League also seems to be off the cards, where Rashford excludes a switch to London, while he does not want to take a reduction in his elevated wages.
And recently speaking, he hinted that he would be open to signing Barcelona. Asked if he would like to play next to Lamine Yamal, he said, “Yes, sure. Everyone in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully we will see.”

When he was asked for a switch to Barcelona, he answered brutally: “We will see.” Rashford added: “Spain is fun, not too far from home. If I train here for a long time, it's good, because my family can come and visit me for a few days, it's just a three -hour flight. The weather is fun here.”
Rashford has left for three years to walk his contract with Man United. But he seems to have no future with Old Trafford as long as Amorim remains the lead.
