MANCHESTER UNITED have taken a major step forward in their discussions over the future of Old Trafford.
United's Task Force announced that they have “completed their initial feasibility study into options for a new or redeveloped stadium.”
The Task Force determined that a redeveloped Old Trafford could increase the capacity of the existing stadium to 87,000.
But a new-build stadium would allow for a capacity of 100,000 people.
Both options remain under consideration, with the club set to decide on the preferred approach before the summer.
A club statement said: “The Task Force has submitted an options report to executive bodies of Manchester United, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Trafford Borough Council.
'It offers a unique opportunity to transform Greater Manchester's historic industrial engine room into a vibrant new engine of growth and innovation in sport, entertainment, business and education.
“The vision is for Manchester United to develop a world-class stadium, which will act as a catalyst for a wider regeneration of a revitalized Trafford Park, which initial findings suggest could generate an additional GVA of £7.3 billion benefits to the British economy. than 90,000 employment opportunities.”
As part of the feasibility study, more than 50,000 United fans were surveyed.
The research showed that more than 90 percent of supporters are positive about the ambition to realize a world-class stadium in the heart of a renovated stadium district.
