Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo has to play for another minute this season and the midfielder is now open to leaving Old Trafford before the transfer window closes
A Manchester United star who is compared to Zinedine Zidane is said to be considering leaving this summer after he has been left on their couch the first two games of the new season.
Kobbie Mainoo was an unused replacement for the 1-0 defeat of United against Arsenal and 1-1 draw with Fulham, in which Ruben Amorim preferred Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte for him.
As a result, Talksport now reports that the 20-year-old is open to leave United in the last week of the transfer window. Mainoo has to agree with a new deal with the club and its current contract expired in 2027.
United Legend Paul Scholes previously compared Mainoo with Zidane and told The Guardian last year: “He is closest to what I saw at Zidane when taking a ball, receiving the ball, sailing past people.
“I heard that there was a young boy who held his against Casemiro in training, sometimes better than him. But you have to go outside and do it. The first time I saw him, I remember that calmness. The way he received the ball with confidence; I just couldn't believe that such a young player could do that.
“That calmness did not come as soon for me as for Kobbie. I would say it was in my career for five or six years. That's why it surprises me. He is so relaxed, the game is so easy for him. It's almost like poetry in motion.
“That calmness will be vital during his career. It is [something] Only in you. Heaven is the limit for this boy when he holds his head down. And he looks like the type that stays on an even keel. “
After the Fulham game, Amorim was interviewed about Mainoo and warned the English international that he was fighting for a place in the team with club captain Fernandes. “He is now fighting for the position with Bruno and I am changing two midfielders,” said Amorim.
