Manchester United is linked to a summer movement for Liam Delap, the in-shape Ipswich Town Striker, but financial realities and earlier errors can make a movement difficult
Manchester United wants to sign Liam Delap from the city of Ipswich this summer – despite reports that suggest that the club is reluctant to spend £ 60 million on another young goal scorer after Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Delap has found it a dozen times in the Premier League, even though the tractor boys are intended for an immediate return to the championship and that form has earned many admirers.
United, who have also been associated with Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres, are among them, but the news news from Manchester suggests that the money spent on Hojlund and Zirkzee in the past two seasons can be reluctant to commit another large sum.
The Men Report, which quoted an anonymous but senior club source, said that during the 2023 Pre-Season Tour United that summer (Hojlund) had to get that summer (Hojlund) and that effectively produced a rule within the club that they would not repeat their fault. “If you don't, you can't spend another £ 60 million on a 12 months later,” said the source.
But Hojlund, who cost £ 72 million from Atalanta, found it only once in 26 games and brought Zirkzee, in to alleviate Hojlund last summer, managed six goals in 46 performances.
Those attacking struggles have contributed considerably to the fact that United stands in the lower half of the Premier League table.
And while head coach Ruben Amorim loves a road past Ligue 1-side Lyon over two competitions in the quarterfinals of the Europa League, she was not allowed to win that competition and miss the Champions League, the transfer plans of United will be further influenced this summer.
The team has reduced clauses that see their wages reduced because of the missing of the Champions League, but the lack of income of being in the most lucrative competition of Europe – which has already stimulated the treasury of Arsenal with more than £ 50 million in prize money – will limit their ability to renew Amorim's team.
It is expected that various high earners will be moved in the low season, but the club is determined to stay on the right side of the rules of the Financial Fair Play and missing European football will be a complicating factor.
