Noord -IERLAND -Defender Jonny Evans retires 37 years old, after winning three league titles, a Champions League and winning more than a century international caps
Jonny Evans has announced his retirement with the last performance of the Center Back in Manchester United's friendly victory after the season against Hong Kong on Friday.
The 107-Cap Northern Ireland International won three Premier League titles, a Champions League, two FA cups, two competition cups and a club world cup, while making 537 club performances for United and Leicester City.
Evans, 37, was only able to appear sporadically before United during their diabolical season, but leaves Old Trafford with his reputation unaffected. His exit also means that next season will be the first time since 1973-74 that no player in the team could be seen as a manager of Sir Alex Ferguson at one point during the time.
“It's really fun and the level he has in training, you can see the standards in his prime and you understand why they won so many titles,” said the current head coach Ruben Amorim.
“With his age, with many problems physically, when he was suitable for training, the level was really high. You can understand that he was a very good player.”
United expects a hectic start of the transfer window. A £ 62.5 million deal for Wolves Forward Matheus Cunha will be completed after the conditions have been agreed last week, while Captain Bruno Fernandes has had his deadline for a possible step to become a member of Al Hilal Extended.
The Saudi club is willing to turn the Portugal star one of the world's best players, but are determined to join the Club World Cup next month. A first deadline last Thursday was set, but the last reports suggest that he worked until the end of next week.
A three -year -old deal of a maximum of £ 200 million is offered in a salary, with Hilal also expected to pay a considerable fee for Fernandes. Allegedly he seriously thinks about the offer.
Every member of United's Squad is available for transfer at the right price, because the club has the costs of their gloomy campaign and no European football next season. Ruben Amorim's team requires an important overhaul to meet the requirements of his 3-4-2-1 system.
But it is accepted that different sales are needed to finance new signing sessions. Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are among those who will probably leave this summer.
