Man Utd star ‘wants’ to join Real Madrid or Barca as club insider offers theory
Manchester United have been warned that Alejandro Garnacho may be considering a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Garnacho has played for United in recent seasons and scored in Sunday's win over Leicester City. However, he has had some problems with the club's fanbase and did not celebrate his goal against the Foxes.
The Argentina international last signed a contract extension in April 2023, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2028. But former United academy boss Nicky Butt believes the winger could soon look for a way out.
And Butt has tipped Spain as his next destination, specifically Madrid or Barca. The United icon has admitted that Garnacho could see the La Liga giants as a step forward.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world, but the best players always leave and go to Spain, to Real Madrid or Barcelona. If you look at all the superstars, they never stay in the Premier League,” Butt told the club. Football's best podcast.
“They stay until they have to go to the next level. A lot of players see the next level as Real Madrid or Barcelona, but we don't see anything bigger than Man United. Our mentality is that if you leave Man United, you'll go down again .
“You are not appreciated here like you are at Madrid. You can guarantee that Kylian Mbappé will be in the running for the Ballon d'Or next year because he plays for Real Madrid. It's like Garnacho, he is doing well here now.
“He is a young Argentinian boy. If he continues like this, you can imagine that he wants to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona. Players there will become superstars, not just on the football field.”
Butt's tip comes after legendary United captain Roy Keane criticized Garnacho for failing to celebrate against Leicester. The Irishman insisted he would have to find another job if he again refused to celebrate a goal.
“If you can't celebrate a goal, there is something drastically wrong with this match. Whatever has happened off the pitch for any player – it could be family matters – you work all week, you play the game to score a goal,” Keane told the Stick to Football podcast.
“When you score a goal, you don't have to think about anything else. You have fans who have traveled and paid fortunes to get there, and so is he [ Garnacho] about people attacking him.
“People make sacrifices to travel to watch Manchester United. He scores a brilliant goal, they are struggling. And if a younger player can't enjoy scoring a goal for Man United, then look for a job elsewhere. “
