Manchester United could miss Viktor Gyokeres this summer with the striker who insists on a move to a club that can offer him Champions League football.
The Sweden -star, 26, has been heavily connected for months with a move to Old Trafford and is no stranger to Ruben Amorim, who worked closely with the former Coventry City man in Sporting Lisbon before changing Portugal for the Premier League.
United has struggled this term for goals with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both disappointing. But a summer dip for Gyokeres is certainly not certain.
According to The Sun, Gyokeres remains the best striker of United, but he wants to play in the Champions League – which will probably cause complications for United.
The Red Devils are currently getting away in the bottom half of the Premier League in 14th place with two-thirds of the 2024-25 season now disappeared. Even if Amorim would oversee a dramatic revival in shape during the last months of the campaign, a top-four finish would seem very unlikely for his besieged charges.
The only potential route from the club to the Champions League would include winning the Europa League, which is again easier said than done, although they have reached the knockout phase of the tournament.
Although the hope of United to sign Gyokeres in the air, he is expected to remain Sporting Lisbon, regardless of this summer and the interest will certainly be high in a player who has plundered 37 goals in just 39 games for his club this season.
The same report outlines that the Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace is another player who has tried United. The Frenchman is said to have important attributes that would fit him well for the lonely frontman role in Amorim's favorite 3-4-3 formation.
Other strikers that have been linked to United in recent months are RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, who is expected to try to sign in the summer.
Ipswich Town -Frontman Liam Delap has also been advertised as a potential signing for the Red Devils after impressing the Kieran McKenna side in the Premier League this period, where he has 10 goals from 26 performances.
