Patrick Dorgu claims that a move to Manchester United is “a chance for me”, while he prepared for a debt with his transfer that is getting closer.
Dorgu is expected to participate in the Premier League of Lecce for an initial € 30 million (£ 25.15 million) plus € 5 million (£ 4.19 million) in add-ons. He was on the couch for Lecce's collision with Parma in Serie A on Friday evening and his move to Old Trafford should be completed well before the Transfer Deadline of Monday 11 p.m.
Lecce President Saverio Sticchi Damiani had made it clear that the club did not want to sell, but Dorgu wants the clubs to reach an agreement and look like he will soon get his wish.
He was seen shortly before he went on board an airplane to the United Kingdom and was questioned about his excitement before he briefly expressed himself, which indicated that he was convinced that the move would be made.
The Manchester -Outfit will now have to go through the formalities if they look to land the first major signing of the Amorim era. A tough summer of expenditure has led United to be smart with their expenses, despite the clear need for new recruits.
The Denmark International will arrive as a specialized left wingback, a role that Diogo Dalot had to play during Amorim's first two months that are in charge. First choice left back Luke Shaw was injured, while his backup, Tyrell Malacia, has convinced his new boss.
United needs new recruits and with Amorim that plays a 3-4-3 system, the wing-back position has become vital and the team is currently lacking in players who can naturally play in that role.
Amorim admitted this week that the club worked to bring new faces – provided that the right players were available. He said, “What I can say is that the club wants to improve the team. That is the most important thing. Everyone does things, everything, to improve the team. If we can do it or not; sometimes”
Those at Old Trafford originally had PSG's Nuno Mendes on their radar, but he would prove to be too expensive that Amorim had to work under a budget. Mendes had played as a wing-back under Amorim when they were both in Sporting Lisbon. Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez was another in consideration, but again would not be sold cheaply by the cherries.
