Man UTD will continue with an £ 62.5 million offer on Matheus Cunha this summer, with the Wolves star compared to Eric Cantona in terms of his potential impact at Old Trafford
Matheus Cunha can have the same impact as Eric Cantona did at Manchester United and transform the under -performance team into champions. United pushes ahead with a £ 62.5 million movement for wolves Vooruit Cunha, with the 25-year-old boss Ruben Amorim's top goal of summer transfer.
Cantona, signed by Leeds for £ 1.2 million in 1992, was the catalyst for the Maiden Premier League triumph of United in 1993, who ended the 26-year-old waiting of the club to be crowned English champions. Former England star Chris Waddle thinks Cunha could have the same transformational impact for United as Cantona and supported the Brazil to become an old Trafford icon when he makes the move.
“United has a aging team,” said Waddle. “Amorim, who has a huge job, has spent many young players.
“They have to keep their hands off the panic button this summer. They have to give him time, and there are players he must continue.
“Cunha, however, is a fantastic football player. He can be temperamental, but perhaps United would be to make him. You can't be Mardy in such a club, the fans will let you know.
“He probably thinks he is in the stage in which he should be in a club like United. Wolves are a big club, but Cunha will be looking for a different level up.
“He has a huge chance here. If he is one of the players to become united and challenging again, he could be like Eric Cantona, the man who has changed United.”
In addition to Cunha, United wants to add a proven goal scorer this summer, as well as a creative midfielder, while Amorim is preparing to reform his team in his first summer transfer window.
Waddle said that United should sign several players this summer if they are serious about climbing the table, with Amorim's side currently in 15th place in the Premier League.
“The club needs more than Cunha, they need large investments,” said Waddle. “Four or five players have to come in, but the even bigger challenge will be a bit away. They have enormous wages.
“The clubs that want them not to have the financial muscle that United will have, and it will be difficult to sell them to Italy or Spain. They lost 4-3 to Brentford, but until Amorim gets his own team together, it is too early to judge.
“I think the top six next season is still a huge challenge for United, so they need two or three years with Amorim who are in charge. They have to stop changing managers. The players who come in, they have to show that she can also handle the pressure.”
Waddle claimed that it is not worth signing Paul Pogba, which is available as a free agent after serving a doping ban, and warned other clubs against moving before him.
“Pogba was an excellent young player,” said Waddle. “When he came to United for the first time, everyone thought he would be the new Michel Platini.
“Then he was in Juventus, it did well, but then lost the way. He was out of the game and he is in the thirty. After the last few years, Pogba is in fact unproven. He even struggled before he was forbidden. He didn't play great.
“We know he has talent, but it's a big risk. These guys demand money. They don't sit there and think:” I don't want money, I try to get myself back into play “. You have to pay these players and they are not cheap.
“Did he get that desire and passion? Did he all have that? Did he come back and prove to everyone? That is the question.”
