Man Utd transfer news: New left back option as Napoli given Alejandro Garnacho alternative

Manchester United take on Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday, but some are focusing just as much on the club's January transfer activities.

Ruben Amorim's side will finish the weekend in the bottom half regardless of the result at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, a win would be extremely valuable as the head coach tries to restore some sense of pride in the second half of the season.

Following reports that the entire United squad was up for sale for the right price, plenty of attention will be paid to possible ins and outs between now and the end of the month. There is a feeling that Amorim's side need to sell before they can buy, with Marcus Rashford one of the high-profile stars linked with an exit.

However, Rashford may not be the only victim of a mid-season reshuffle. Here, Mirror Football offers the latest lines from Old Trafford.

Nuno Mendes is on the verge of turning down a move to Manchester United, according to L'Equipe. The Paris Saint-Germain left back previously worked with Ruben Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, but seems willing to stay in Paris.

The Portugal international was seen as a natural candidate for the left wing-back role in Amorim's 3-4-3 formation. His contract expires in 2026 and there were suggestions United could test the waters with a bid in January.

Mendes started for PSG on Saturday when they won 2-1 at Lens. They were still behind at halftime, but second-half goals from Fabian Ruiz and Bradley Barcola turned things around.

With Mendes in question, Rayan Ait-Nouri could be another option on the left. The Independent names the Algerian as an alternative to Mendes, whose wages and transfer fee could pose an obstacle.

Ait-Nouri is not the only Wolves player on United's radar. The same publication notes that Matheus Cunha is also of interest, although the striker has also been linked with Arsenal.

French-born left back Ait-Nouri is having the best scoring season of his career. However, his club is struggling despite a win over United in December.

Napoli appear to have moved on from Alejandro Garnacho as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's replacement, with Rayan Cherki now emerging as an option. The Italian side are believed to have been priced out of a move for Garnacho, despite United seemingly willing to sell for the right price.

According to reports in France (via GFFN), Cherki has been offered to Napoli. The 21-year-old has starred for Lyon, but the French club are expected to sell in January.

Kvaratskhelia has now officially completed his move to Paris Saint-Germain. The Georgian international has signed a contract with the Parisiens that runs until the summer of 2029.
