Man Utd transfer news: Rashford theory emerges as Ruben Amorim handed major blow

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim will be frustrated that no new signings have arrived as he looks for new recruits to fit into his system.

United have been heavily linked with a number of players this month – especially at left-back as the Portuguese looks for more cover following Luke Shaw's injury, while Tyrell Malacia looks likely to leave.

A new striker is also on his wish list, but after the team's impressive 1-0 win at Fulham he may be optimistic that his team is starting to adapt to his methods.

Mirror Football has taken a look at all the big transfer news and gossip heading into next week's transfer deadline.

United handed Dorgu Blow

The Red Devils have been chasing a move for Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu for many weeks, with their second bid of £27m rejected by the Italian club.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that United will tempt the club with another offer, with time running out before the deadline on February 3.

But United have suffered another blow in their pursuit of Dorgu, with the club's president hinting their plan was to hold on to their star assets.

Sticchi Damiani said: “Man United? We are trying to keep the player, it is our plan. At some point you have to be logic; but we want to keep our best players in January.”

To put together United's latest set-back, Dorgu started for LECCE in their 4-0 defeat to Inter Milan on Sunday, playing the full 90 minutes.

Amorim hints Garnacho could stay

Alejandro Garnacho has not had the easiest time at United since Amorim arrived in October, with the Argentine a peripheral figure under the Portuguese coach early on in his reign.

The 20-year-old has struggled for minutes at times and has been linked with the exit door in the January transfer window. Chelsea are said to be interested in the winger and there have even been rumors that he could be involved in a swap deal with Christopher NKUNKU.

But Garnacho's playing time has steadily improved in recent weeks after starting two of United's last three league games – including Sunday's 1-0 win over Fulham.

Speaking before the match at Craven Cottage, Amorim hinted that Garnacho could stay despite likely leaving the club this month.

“He is our player and I am really happy with Garnacho, he is improving a lot,” he said. “I think he had a really good game last Thursday [vs Rangers].

“He is a young kid so he can recover very well, he is prepared for this game and we want to use all Garnacho's talent to win this game.” Rio reveals Rashford Reason for exit

Ferdinand explains Rashford's exit position

Marcus Rashford looks the most likely united player to depart before the end of the window, with the England forward left out of another of Amorim's matchday squads for the win over Fulham.

Barcelona are said to be leading the chase for the 27-year-old's signature in a loan deal, but a deal appears far from certain, with Borussia Dortmund also said to have registered an interest.

Rashford said he needed to be re-challenged in December when he gave a bombshell interview in which he revealed his desire for an exit – insisting there would be no hard feelings if he eventually left.

And now former United star Rio Ferdinand has revealed his belief that Rashford is looking for a move after “switching over” in recent years.

He told the Daily Mail: “Manchester United, people around Marcus too, need to make sure he leaves in the best tact both mentally and physically. Mentally even more important because I think he's been brought over for a few years now.

“But that also comes into the territory of being a Manchester United player. And when you're held up as one of the faces of the club, then that's part of the package of being at Man United, unfortunately.”

“I think it's always easy for everyone to assume and think what to do, but I think only Marcus and his team know the benefits of staying in Manchester or at United.

“The one thing I would advise him on – if I were his advisor – he is never 100 percent sure that the decision he makes at this intersection is right. He's going to do something – either he goes or he goes or or he goes or either he goes or he goes or he goes or Stays – and when he makes that decision he still won't be 100 percent sure.”
