Manchester United have just one Premier League match remaining in 2024 when they play Newcastle United on Monday evening.
It has been a year to forget for the Red Devils, apart from the victory in the FA Cup final in May, but they will hope to end on a positive note under new boss Ruben Amorim. The January transfer window opens at the turn of the year, with a hint of possibilities for the 39-year-old head coach to consider.
Marcus Rashford's future remains uncertain after the forward admitted he wanted a new challenge while being left out of Amorim's squad. United also appear to be lacking in a number of positions, although the club may have to make sales to accommodate incoming deals.
With that said, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the transfer news surrounding the club.
Man Utd make an offer
Manchester United have made a bid for Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes, according to reports in France.
The defender's contract expires in 2026 and negotiations between the French team and the player are said to have stalled. As a result, Mendes is reportedly looking to leave.
RMC Sports Report United has made an 'offer' for the 22-year-old, although it is unclear whether it is for PSG or Mendes. However, the Ligue 1 side are not considering selling the player in January and would prefer him to sign an extension.
United official in Portugal
O Jogo reports according to Sport Witness that Manchester United had an official present at Porto's 4-0 win over Boavista. The Red Devils have seen no shortage of links with players operating in the Portuguese division since the arrival of Amorim from Sporting and this could certainly fan some flames.
United are said to have previously scouted Porto stars Francisco Moura and Samuel Omorodion. It is not surprising that Amorim's team would then look at a left back and an attacker respectively.
United gets transfer task
Alan Shearer has told United boss Ruben Amorim to make a new striker a transfer priority next month. And the legendary Premier League striker believes Amorim may be best served by reuniting with Viktor Gyokeres.
“Where do you start?” said Shearer, a Betfair ambassador. “Undoubtedly United need a top striker, I have made my feelings clear on that for a long time. They could spend a lot of money on Viktor Gyokeres, Amorim clearly knows him very well.
“He said he wouldn't go back to Sporting to take them out but that could change. Ultimately they need players from all over the park, one of the most important is the position I played in and for me they need a top player .” -class striker.”
