Manchester United is considering moving for Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to a report.
The Red Devils want to sign an attacker this summer, with goals that continue to be a problem in a campaign that has turned out to be one of the worst in the history of the club.
Rasmus Hojlund has only collected four Premier League goals this period and made criticism of both fans and experts while he continues to struggle in his attempt to become the answer to the club's striker.
United is almost a deal to sign Matheus Cunha, but it is understood that Ruben Amorim wants to play the current wolves ahead to play in a no. 10 roll. This will lead to the club signing another striker.
However, their mission has been made more difficult, after losing the Europa League final against Tottenham on Wednesday. The defeat means that the club will not play Champions League football next season, making it possible to attract players.
L'Equipe has been associated with Viktor Gyokeres, reports that the club has transferred their attention to the Mateta of Crystal Palace as a potential target for the summer.
Frenchman Mateta has been an integral part of the Crystal Palace side that won the FA Cup earlier this month when they defeated Manchester City in the final. He has always been present in a strong front line on the Oliver Glasner side.
Mateta, 27, has scored 17 goals this season in all competitions, including 14 in the Premier League. He started the FA Cup final, flanked by Ebereechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr.
However, his contract has risen in a year, which means that he could be available at a reduced price. If he does not leave this summer, he can talk to foreign clubs from January and possibly leave for free next summer.
That could lead to Palace wanting to close a deal, where Eddie Nketiah shows a considerable form of Mateta's backup. However, there has been no indications that the Palace wants to sell.
Mateta himself wants to impress Didier Deschamps to try to force his way to the French national team for the World Cup next year. That could lead to him following the ship's ship – although success in the Europa League could help his business with Palace next year.
A return to France for the former Lyon attacker is also reportedly an option.
