Man Utd’s £40m Garnacho replacement dubbed ‘leader’ and ‘mini Mo Salah’

In the event of Alejandro Garnacho's departure from Manchester United, Bryan Mbeumo is reportedly a prime target for the Premier League giants.

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim has no qualms about respecting the standards he expects from his team. He has picked Garnacho and Marcus Rashford after leaving them out of the matchday squad for the Manchester derby last month. While he started the season on the bench under Erik ten Hag, Argentina international Garnacho became an important player for the Dutchman. He started six league games in a row before being sacked.

In the following eight games, one of which was led by then interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, the 20-year-old started just three times under the Portuguese boss.

Earlier this week it emerged that Garnacho – along with a number of other key players – is now considered expendable by the club. It is understood the Red Devils would be open to serious offers for all members of Amorim's squad, with no players off limits this month.

TBR Football additionally claims Garnacho would be open to a move away from Old Trafford, with Atletico Madrid touted as a possible destination. Should he leave United, Brentford star Mbeumo could take his place after a sparkling first half of the season.

The Cameroon international has scored thirteen goals and provided a further three assists in eighteen Premier League matches. He has been the shining light in an otherwise inconsistent season for the Bees so far.

His figures are comparable to those of the division's best, with only Mohamed Salah (18) and Erling Haaland (16) scoring more in the top flight than the 25-year-old this season. According to Spanish newspaper Fichajes, Amorim is looking to secure his services for a fee of £40 million.

Since last season, Mbeumo has been receiving high praise across the football world, with his manager Thomas Frank paying tribute to the standards he sets for his own teammates.

“I praised him a few weeks ago because he drives training with his attitude, work ethic and determination to want to get better and win,” the Dane said, according to The Athletic. “He is definitely a leader in the making.”

His playing style and effectiveness on the left in a three-pronged attack have led to comparisons with Mohamed Salah, with talkSPORT's Jason Cundy describing Mbeumo as a mini version of the Liverpool legend.

“Mbeumo, I think, if you look at what could happen at Liverpool with Salah… I look at Mbeumo and what he is capable of. He is a little mini Salah, on the right, with his left foot.”

Brentford will be hoping they can keep hold of the winger for as long as possible. Should he leave, it would be a bitter pill to swallow for the west Londoners, who saw Ivan Toney leave last season.
