Legend Wayne Rooney from Manchester United has suggested that the Red Devils Danny Welbeck should again sign and they seriously took a movement for the experienced striker last summer.
Welbeck left United for Arsenal in 2014 after he had entered the club's academy and he is currently working his trade for Brighton. The 34-year-old has so far scored seven Premier League goals for Brighton, while the current United Strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have only managed five in between.
Speaking after Welbeck scored an extra-time winner when Brighton Newcastle defeated in the FA Cup, Rooney told the BBC: “Danny, he is great to play next to and if I am completely honest, I would probably still want to see him play here for Manchester United.
“He scored goals during his career, had injuries at the start of his career, but seems to have come over and he has a fantastic season.” And United was interested in signing Welbeck last summer, with the then manager Erik ten Hag, would like to add an experienced forward to his team.
According to athletics, Ten Hag felt that Welbeck would be an 'excellent addition' and that the club 'seriously thought he would make a contract offer before he eventually drew a new two -year -old deal to stay in Brighton.
The experience and connection of Welbeck with the club were seen as big positive points, but an offer was never made and Hojlund and Zirkzee are the only senior strikers at the decision of manager Ruben Amorim.
Chido Obi, 17, has made three performances of the bank in recent months and when he was asked if he could start for Hojlund, who did not score in his last 18 games in all games, Amorim said: “Something can happen in the following games.
“During the training we don't have much time to train, but we have to see the opposition, the moment of the player at the moment feel physical with many games. Because we are going to play on Thursday/Sunday, everything can happen.
“But I will concentrate on just the next game, you know, try and try that way, as if I am going to change the striker. No, I will choose the best players to win the next game. We have a problem with goals.
“Today we create situations, but even in the last game you sometimes felt that we only make some danger in set pieces. So I think the first step is to create situations. Nowadays we create, but we have to improve that to help our attackers and strikers score.”
