Manchester United have made inquiries for two more left-backs after opening talks with Lecce over a deal for Patrick Dorgu.
The Red Devils are limited in what they can do in the January transfer window due to Premier League profit and sustainability rules, but work is underway to strengthen Ruben Amorim's squad.
Amorim has been forced to use Diogo Dalot at left wing-back as Luke Shaw is injured. And with that in mind, strengthening that position has become a priority for United this month.
It emerged on Monday that United had approached Lecce for talks over Dorgu, but two other Premier League defenders are also on the club's radar.
As revealed by ESPN, Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell and Wolves player Rayan Ait-Nouri have both been the subject of investigation as United consider all their options.
Interest in Paris Saint-Germain's Nuno Mendes is also well documented, although the report outlines that the Portugal international is not seen as a viable target in January.
Both Ait-Nouri and Mitchell have impressed in the Premier League for their respective sides this season. United, on the other hand, had to make do with Dalot coming on with Shaw injured and Tyrell Malacia, the club's other senior left-back, leaving on loan from Old Trafford.
The Athletic revealed that talks had taken place with Dorgu on Monday, although Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino was adamant during an interview last month that the Serie A team would not sell the 20-year-old mid-season.
He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Dorgu is a potential champion. Correction: he is a champion. On the left or right wing he runs like three players and can find the goal. He has an engine that no one else has.”
“A player like him naturally has admirers, and there are plenty of them, even abroad. But Dorgu will stay here and we will talk about it this summer, because his fate is already determined. His future belongs to him.”
Talks are also underway over a number of possible player exits, including moves for Marcus Rashford and Antony, with the latter set to join Real Betis.
