Manchester City 1-2 Chelsea: Cuthbert heads dramatic winner for WSL leaders

Erin Cuthbert came from the bank to score a winner of the 91st minute when Chelsea drove back to achieve a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Super League for women.

The blues of Sonia Bompastor were beaten 2-0 by City in the first stage of their Champions League quart final draw on Wednesday, so that their undefeated run stopped at 31 games in all competitions.

They traveled to the Etihad Stadium for Sunday's rematch that was still unbeaten this term in the League promotion, but that record was in danger when Brazil Vooruit Kerolin scored a wonderful solo goal in the 32nd minute.

After he picked up the ball 40 meters from the goal on the right flank, Kerolin drove into the area and Millie Bright fooled a smart Feint and stopped her finish in the bottom corner.

Kerolin had previously forced Hannah Hampton in action from a tight corner, and the substandard visitors were lucky to go into the break, only one goal behind.

City was furious when the addict finish from Jess Park was not allowed to be shortly before the break, with the whistle already followed an error on Kerolin just outside the box, played without benefit by referee Kirsty Dowle.

To add to the frustrations of the city, Yui Hasegawa cut off the bar of the resulting free kick and Chelsea from four minutes in the second half.

Johanna Rytting-Kanyd closed the ball back to the right and cut the ball back for Beever-Jones, who drove her finish in the distant pole.

Chelsea improved from there and forced several good stops from Khiara Keating, but their pressure finally told in the second half of the stopping time.

Ashley Lawrence stood up a cross from the right and Cuthbert arrived unarkly to defeat Keating with a dull head, some wild parties of the visiting players.

While Chelsea is expanding their lead over the second Arsenal placed back to eight points after the 4-0 routes of the Gunners of Liverpool, fourth place in fourth place will remain 15 points in the top position.

Data debrief: twenty for Chelsea

Chelsea may have benefited from a piece of fortune with the non -compound goal of Park, but they made that countdown when they expanded their undefeated run in the WSL to 20 games, dating from the last weeks of Emma Hayes' government of Emma Hayes last season.

They won 18 times in that period and pulled twice. The last time a team went 20 games without defeat in the WSL when Chelsea started a Recordrun of 33 games between February 2019 and January 2021.

They are also the first team to avoid the defeat for their first 17 games of a WSL campaign since City did this in 2018-19.

The Nick Cushing team gets a quick chance of revenge when the teams are again in accordance with the second stage of their European draw on Thursday, the first time that two WSL teams have ever met within a single calendar month.
