Manchester City 2-2 Brighton: Hosts pegged back twice in entertaining Etihad draw

Manchester City missed the opportunity to climb in the top four of the Premier League, when Brighton drove back twice to earn a 2-2 draw in the Etihad Stadium.

Last season's champions knew that a victory would take them above Chelsea before the Blues visit Arsenal on Sunday, and they led twice in the first half.

Erling Haaland converted from the penalty place after Omar Marmoush was chopped by Adam Webster, although Pervis Estupinan quickly decreased with a wonderful free kick that hit the distant pole before nesting in the net.

Marmoush then shot a 20 -meter strike from the upright and inside to restore the lead of the city six minutes before the break, but Brighton would return after the interval.

The shot of Jack Hinshelwood, in turn, was diverted along Stefan Ortega by the ignorant Abdukodir Khusanov, and Brighton grew in confidence from there.

Both parties had chances of 2-2, because Yankuba Minth was not in one way or another in the distant pole of Diego Gomez, while Nico Gonzalez went against the post on the other side.

But it was Brighton that missed the clearest chance for a late winner, where Carlos Baleba City dropped from the hook when he shot out of the nearby criminal place.

The draw leaves City fifth in the table, a point behind Chelsea that has played an extra game.

Brighton is now only one point further back in the seventh, nestled with Newcastle United between the two parties.

Debrief data: Haaland feat overshadowed

Everything seemed to be planning for City when Haaland placed them in front of the penalty place and scored his 84th goal in 94 Premier League performances.

With 16 assists in his name too, the Norwegian is the first player in history who reaches 100 target statements in fewer than 100 trips in the competition.

Haaland's new partner-in-crime Marmoush restored the advantage of the city at 2-1, but some poor set-set-set-set set saw Guardiolas men stuck in the second half.

City has now admitted 40 goals in the Premier League this season, their most in every campaign under Guardiola, who previously sent 39 in 2016-17.

They have admitted this period 66 times in all competitions, also their most in every season under Guardiola.
