Manchester City, Liverpool on alert as Martin Zubimendi hints at future Premier League move

During the 2024 summer transfer window, Martin Zubimendi was very close to leaving Real Sociedad. He considered an attractive offer from Liverpool, and although at one point it looked certain he would leave, he ultimately stayed at Donostia-San Sebastian.

Zubimendi is already a youth fan of La Real, so convincing him to leave has proven extremely difficult for a number of clubs, not just Liverpool. However, he has now told El Diario Vasco that he is not completely closed to a possible departure at some point. He also talked about the situation during the summer.

“I went on holiday and it surprised me. It wasn't something I had planned. I responded when the situation arose. It was an uncomfortable time for me. But I weighed the pros and cons and came to the conclusion that staying was the best option.

“I looked at my personal progress, who I am and the club's project. I stayed because I knew this season would be important for me in the team, and I still had to take steps. It wasn't that hard of a decision. There were many reasons for my decision, but I was selfish and thought about what was best for me. And that stayed.

“I don't believe in one-off opportunities. If you are good and want to achieve something, it will come to you. You don't have to rush.”

Real Sociedad would be devastated if he lost Zubimendi, although they would be powerless to make him leave if he wanted to. However, each club would still have to activate its €60 million release clause.
