The midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Manchester City will miss the FIFA Club World Cup after an operation to repair an Achilles tendon injury, the Premier League Club said Monday.
The Croatian has been hindered for a while by the injury and last month 1-0 FA Cup Final Loss to Crystal Palace was outside.
“Mateo will spend the summer with rehabilitation of the operation, and everyone in the club wishes him a quick recovery,” the club said in a statement.
The 31-year-old was not included in the team for Croatia's World Cup qualifications against Gibraltar on June 6 and the Czech Republic on 9 June.
Kovacic scored seven goals in 42 performances for City last season in all competitions.
City starts their club World Cup campaign in the United States on June 18 against Wydad AC.
