Manchester United consider move for PSG’s Nuno Mendes

Nuno Mendes (22) was expected to sign a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, but Manchester United could throw a spanner in the works, according to a report from Florian Plettenberg.

Mendes joined PSG in 2021, initially on loan, before making the move permanent a year later for €38 million. Despite the arrival of Lucas Hernandez in the summer of 2023, the Portuguese international continues to play a prominent role. The left back was only able to play six games in Ligue 1 last season due to recurring injuries. However, he has been prominent so far this season, thanks in part to Hernandez's knee injury.

As an important player within the team, PSG was keen to extend Mendes' contract, which expires in 2026. The new contract under discussion would run until 2029 and talks are progressing according to Fabrizio Romano. However, in the search for a left back, Manchester United have identified Mendes as targets, as well as AC Milan's Théo Hernandez.

With “many top candidates” potentially showing interest in Mendes, Plettenberg understands there are currently no plans for the defender to extend his current contract with PSG, at least in the short term. Manchester United are aware of this situation and could still take advantage of it.
