Manchester United send scouts to watch £60million-rated Bundesliga star
Manchester United sent scouts to Denmark on Thursday evening to watch Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.
The Egyptian sensation finally scored the Bundesliga winner from the penalty spot in their 2-1 win over FC Midtjylland, with new United boss Ruben Amorim sending his men out to take a closer look. Tottenham, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also had scouts present.
The strike took Marmoush's tally of goals to 15 in all competitions so far this season – and he also has 11 assists to his name.
Liverpool are also believed to be admirers of Mohamed Salah's international team-mate, who was the subject of two rejected bids from Nottingham Forest last summer.
But it now appears that United are showing serious interest in the 25-year-old, although Frankfurt are hoping he will stay at least until the end of the season.
Marmoush's market value has risen significantly in the past 12 months and the German company could ask for almost £60 million to complete a sale. Interest from multiple parties and a possible bidding war will certainly add to their hopes of getting what they want.
Sir Dave Brailsford, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's trusted confidant, is also being supported at United to make Manchester United successful again.
Simon Clifford worked with former England rugby boss Sir Clive Woodward at Southampton in 2005. Clifford believes attitudes have changed since then, saying: “There is a lot more encouragement now for sports to learn from each other.
“In general, people in football are much more open-minded. Look what Jim Ratcliffe has achieved with Nice. And Dave Brailsford has been successful wherever he has worked.
“From a high performance perspective, Brailsford could help every sport in the world. I think Ineos will do well at United. For what they are trying to achieve, it is a tall order to turn it around, but the right mix is there.”
