Real Madrid closes their new left back, while they continue to rebuild their defense before the club World Cup. With deals for Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool and the Dean Huijsen van Bournemouth has already been packed, Benfica left back Alvaro Carreras is the following on the agenda for Los Blancos.
During the weekend it was reported that a deal '90% was closed to Carreras', but because there has been little movement. According to Diario As, Benfica and Real Madrid negotiate the final price of the deal, but it is expected to be done. Xabi Alonso has given the green light for the deal.
The Santiago Bernabeu seems to be his destination, and that is partly because Manchester United has agreed not to be involved. The Red Devils sold Carreras to Benfica last summer for € 6 million and have a repurchase option of € 18 million. They could have carried out that option and wanted to sell him with a profit, but the paper based in Madrid says they have reached an agreement in order not to be involved in negotiations, and in exchange, Manchester United will receive a reduction of € 18 million.
The final costs of the deal for Los Blancos will be somewhere between € 40 million and € 50 million. Carreras has a release clause of € 60 million in his Benfica contract, but the Eagles are open to negotiate. President Rui Costa has set € 40 million as the minimum price for Carreras, but want to get closer to € 50 million for him.
The arrival of the 22-year-old will probably push out one of their existing options. Ferland Mendy has been cited as a potential output, although there has been a suggestion that he could be converted into a three as a central defender. If Mendy does not leave, Los Blancos can look at Fran Garcia at the door, although in theory he fits more with Alonso's football.
