Manchester United is producing major changes this summer, because Ruben Amorim wants to ensure that there is no repetition of their disastrous campaign 2024-25, and although he cannot find a buyer for one of his first teams, the young Joe Hugill is on loan again
Manchester United striker Joe Hugill has left the club on loan again. Hugill, 21, has agreed to become a member of League Two Barnet for the entire season 2025-26.
Hugill, who moved to United's Academy from Sunderland in 2020, has made the London Club his fifth temporary house while he is in United's books.
He spent part of 2023 with Altrincham and part of 2024 with Burton Albion – only scored one competition goal for each – before he spent the first half of last season on loan at Wigan Athletic in League One. He scored three goals in 13 league games before he was recalled by United and sent to League Two, with Carlisle United.
Hugill only scored twice in 16 league matches for Carlisle, under the guidance of former United favorite Mark Hughes. But it was a nightmare -time in Brunton Park, when Carlisle was banned to the National League.
While they went down, Barnet was returned to the EFL.
Hugill has mapped out his ambitions for the coming season, Hugill told the club website of Barnet: “I think it is clear that it is clearly playing a lot of games, scoring a lot of goals is the most important thing for a striker, but I am still quite young – still 21 – so I think it just gets the matches under my belt and a really good season.”
Bee manager Dean Brennan added: “We have been after this type of players for a long time. Although he is long, his movements and attributes are all behind.
“He has pace, excellent Finisher, very dynamic – we want him to look past the barrel of the goal.
“He is such an exciting player, he is like a Jamie Vardy/Michael Owen -Type.”
It is a critical year for Hugill, because he wants to make a career for himself in the football competition. He only has a year left at his Old Trafford deal and becomes 22 in October.
