A former Manchester United attacker was in the center of a massive fight during a competition final in Brazil.
On Friday, Corinthians hosted Palmeiras in the second stage of the final of the Campeonato Paulista, the highest level of competition football in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
After a 1-0 win in the first stage last weekend, Corinthians just had to keep the game in the final phase to secure their record-expanding 31st title, and their first since 2019.
While the clock ended, Memphis Depay – who joins the Brazilian club of Atletico Madrid in the summer – dribbled the ball in the corner in an attempt to see the game.
Apparently not satisfied with simply shielding the ball from an additional defender, the Dutch international stood with both feet on it.
The move only had to make the opposition players furious and within a few seconds a massive fight around the corner flag with players from both teams was involved.
The officials responded quickly by sending the Corinthians -midfielder Jose Martinez and veteran Palmeiras -goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba for their involvement in the subsequent Melee.
When the order was eventually restored, Corinthians gave their total lead in the last seconds to claim the title.
The trophy marks the third league title of Depay's career, almost a decade after his failed Stint at Old Trafford.
After gaining admirers from the entire football world for his form in his native Netherlands for PSV, United defeated the competition from PSG, among others, to sign Depay in the summer of 2015 for a four -year deal.
However, his time in the Premier League would only end 18 months later with Depay who joins the French side Lyon after he got out of grace at United.
