Crystal Palace is ready to cash in Captain Marc Guehi, with Liverpool preparing an offer before the summer transfer window closes on Monday evening for business
Crystal Palace is preparing for life without Marc Guehi by searching the transfer market for replacements for their captain. Guehi went into the last year of his palace contract and the club knows that they now have to cash in on or run the risk of losing him for nothing in a year.
Liverpool introduced conversations to sign the English international on 12 August and remains enthusiastic about the 26-year-old middle behind. Guehi is supposed to be open to participation in the defensive Premier League champions, who want to add depth beyond Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Earlier this month, the conversations brutal over appreciation, in which Palace quoted £ 45 million for their star defender, while Liverpool is not above £ 35 million. But they are expected to collect pace again after the play-off of Palace's Conference League against Fredrikstad on Thursday evening.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner said that the Guehi club had to keep until at least that match, because of their lack of options, but knows that chairman Steve Parish is open to selling. The South London Club has prepared for the exit of Guehi by putting potential replacements in a row.
Earlier this week they registered an interest in Manuel Akanji from Manchester City and have now made Monaco an offer to take Mohammed Salisu on loan, according to The Guardian. Neither is guaranteed, with competition from Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray for Akanji and Olympiakos for Salisu.
Palace was also associated with Rennes' Jeremy Jacquet and Toulouse's Jaydee Canvot, but Akanji would represent the most experienced option. The 30-year-old Switzerland International has left his city contract for two years and Palace was reportedly ready to offer £ 15 million for his services.
Ebereechi Eze has become a member of Arsenal for £ 67.5 million and Palace still has to find a replacement for the creative midfielder. Yeremy Pino will join the club from Villarreal after a deal with a value of a maximum of £ 26 million has been agreed, while Arsenal's Reiss Nelson and Club Brugge's Christos Tzolis are other goals after a deal for Leicester's Bilal El Khannousten.
There is an acceptance that Guehi will soon have to be replaced. Speaking after the 1-0 win over Fredrikstad last week, Parish told Channel 5: “If Marc wants to sign a new contract, he can stay! It is a difficult situation. Everyone has to sell players to meet the rules. That is a situation that we have to look at for the next 11 days.”
Liverpool has already signed defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma for £ 26 million, but wants further reinforcements at the back, with Joe Gomez the only other backup to Van Dijk and Konate. Konate's performance has raised eyebrows in the first three games of the season and emphasized the importance of Landing Guehi.
The summer transfer window closes on Monday evening for business, which means that Guehi was able to play his last two games for Palace against Fredrikstad on Thursday against Fredrikstad and against Aston Villa on Sunday.
