Oliver Glasner is insisting that Marc Guehi has to stay in Crystal Palace for at least their play-off second leg, but Steve Parish says that players are leaving for free “not ideal”.
Liverpool is interested in signing Guehi, who has entered into the last year of his contract, while Palace will also lose Ebereechi to Arsenal after a deal has been agreed on Wednesday.
Guehi started and captain Palace to a 1-0 win in the first stage of their Conference League-Confirmation against Fredrikstad on Thursday evening, but the registration demandline has since elapsed, which means that no new signs can appear in the second stage next week.
Glasner joked that he is considering filling in in the middle of the back if Guehi would leave earlier in the midst of his concern about the lack of depth in his team.
“We are very, very late. It's 10 days to go [until the transfer window closes] To find the right replacements, “said Glasner.” I think we could have done much better than we were. It is not criticism, it only tells facts.
“Today we had 17 players available on the field. One of the Academy, two players we already told that they had to leave the club. So that means we are 14 and have six games from 10 August to 31 hours.
“This group, I know we can rely on them. I trust them completely. But it is really not the best way to start in the season. With the results, third game, no defeat, that is all good. But I think we are under the edge.
“I only know if Marc leaves and is not available for Frederikstad, we will have major problems. That is pretty clear. We can't register anyone. So he must stay on my side.
“We played with Jeff Lerma today. He is a player in midfield. We don't have a centerback available at the moment. If Marc leaves, I will try my boots because I was a center-back, and this can be a good option. I will think about it.”
But on the other hand, Parish said: “If Marc wants to sign a contract, he can stay!
“It is a difficult situation. If you are in Europe, the financial rules are much tighter than in the Premier League.
“Players who leave for free is not ideal. We will have to look at it for the next 11 days.”
'Eze never replaced is our fault before'
Glasner also hit Palace about not replacing Eze.
“I can't do anything. I can't sign the players. I can't sign the contract of a player. So we have to act. We need this. This is the future of Crystal Palace,” he said.
“We don't have to add numbers. It is easy to add 10 songs. We need the right players. The profile has been defined for months. It is not surprising for anyone who left EBs. To be honest it is not surprising.
“Five days earlier we could not have done anything when he leaves. We knew that the chance was very high that this would happen. To be honest, and I say it as it is, we missed him early enough. That is completely our fault and fault of anyone else.”
'We will look to get the quality we can do'
At the departure of Eze, Parish added: “We have to pass it. He has been fantastic for us and we are happy that he will fulfill his ambitions.
“We have to find other players to support the team and Oliver Glasner. We will bring in players, it's about finding the right players.
“I don't think Oliver wants too much, I think it's the right number. It's about getting the balance, we are a bit thin anyway. We work on what we are working on and will look to get the quality we can.
“We are very lucky with Oliver because he is very involved, he is a very data -driven manager. He is very specific about what he wants.”
