Marcus McGhee breaks silence after suffering first promotional loss to Petr Yan in UFC Abu Dhabi co-main

UFC Bantamweight Competier Marcus Mcghee went to social media only a few hours after his first UFC defeat.

In what was easily the biggest fight of his MMA career, UFC Bantamweight Marcus Mcghee Net was short of the goal against the former title holder Petr Yan in the UFC Abu Dhabi Co-Main event. With his experience and elite who stood out, Yan showed up to suppress Mcghee and frustrate over three action rounds.

Yan beat Mcghee through a unanimous decision and made a strong thing for a title shot with his performance. In the meantime, it was a disappointing setback for Mcghee after 4-0 in the UFC Octagon before he had the chance of the Co-Main event.

Mcghee is one of the many previously unbeaten UFC stars that suffer their first loss in the Octagon in 2025. Before UFC Abu Dhabi, Mcghee was on a quick click on the Bantamweight ranking with recent knockouts from JP Buys and Gaston Bolanos.

But Mcghee's show against Yan shows that the young star still has a way to fight with the elite of the division. The Bantamweighter recognized the same amount during his first comments after the fight.

In a recent message in his Instagram story, Mcghee addressed his supporters after a difficult setback at UFC Abu Dhabi.

“What's going on is boys, thanks for the support. Sorry I was on social media, was just trying to call in for the fight,” McRghee started.

“I have a few bumps and bruises, but we went outside, did our best and fell short. We are coming back, we always work hard, we always try to do our best. So all the glory for God … I'm still going to try to do this thing.

“So thank you all, I appreciate all of you. Life is still good … I'll catch you later.”

The loss of Mcghee broke a six-fighter-winning streak and was his first defeat since July 2022. He made his promotion debut in April 2023 after successful Stints in LFA and RUF.

In the meantime, Yan is knocking on the door of another potential title shot after UFC Abu Dhabi. In the meantime, Yan was closed to one of the best contenders in the division.

Asked for a potential matchup with former title -Umar Nurmagomedov after UFC Abu Dhabi, Yan repeated his strong attitude in demanding a title shot.

“At the moment I am not interested in fighting Umar in November in Qatar,” Yan said at his press conference after the fight. “I was offered a fight against him in Baku, Azerbaijan. I accepted it; they couldn't accept it.

Rumors have sought that the UFC focuses on the return of Nurmagomedov for the upcoming UFC Fight Night event of the promotion in Qatar. Nurmagomedov has not fought since he fell on UFC 311 at UFC Bantamweight Champion Merab Dvalishvili earlier this year.

Yan previously suffered a crooked defeat against Dvalishhvili in their career, because Dvalishvili established countless UFC records in a unanimous decision victory. Yan has been reflected with recent victories over Song Yadong and DeiveSon Figueiredo.

Former title holder Henry Cejudo argued for Yan to face the winner of Dvalishvili against Cory Sandhagen after UFC Abu Dhabi. Dvalishvili vs. Sandhagen will serve as the UFC 320 Co-Main event in October.
