Marcus Rashford has been left out of Manchester United's squad for Manchester United's Carabao Cup match against Tottenham.
It comes just days after he was left out of Ruben Amorim's squad for last weekend's Manchester derby, which United won 2-1. Rashford missed training earlier this week due to illness, but Amorim confirmed he would be in training ahead of the trip to Spurs.
Rashford's exclusion from the squad comes after the 27-year-old admitted he was “ready for a new challenge” in an interview with Henry Winter.
However, United boss Amorim refused to close the door on Rashford's future at Old Trafford, insisting in his pre-match press conference that the team is better with the England international in it.
Alejandro Garnacho, who was also left out of the Manchester derby, is in United's squad to face Spurs.
'Amorim tries to leave Rashford'
Melissa Reddy from Sky Sports News:
In the absence of a market for Rashford, Amorim has tried various methods to get him. “For so long, for example with Rash, you try something and it doesn't work,” he said. 'Let's keep doing the same thing? Or something else?'
Being left out of the squad against Manchester City has had the desired effect so far, improving the player's training standards and attitude.
Rashford posted a photo of United's celebrations after Amad's sensational winner with the caption “Yesssssssss! Love it boys” on social media. It was seen as a nod to Amorim's comment that everything including “commitment to teammates” will be taken into consideration when selecting a matchday squad.
Where will Rashford finish?
Football journalist Henry Winter:
“He made it clear to me that when he said the new challenge would not be at Old Trafford. There is no doubt about that. It is now a question of when and not if. Whether it would be a loan in January, it would be a loan .” complicated deal for many reasons, but it looks like he's out the door.
“The only problem with a move to Saudi Arabia is that he really wants to be part of the England squad again and play in the World Cup in America. I don't think Saudi Arabia would be the right choice for him. Real Madrid has Kylian Mbappé, Rashford's successor, in-house.” not at his level. Barcelona don't have the money. There may be Juventus in Italy, but it is a complicated deal.”
