Aston Villa manager Unai Emery admitted that the club is working on transfer agreements behind the scenes, but could not confirm the status of their Marcus Rashford.
Manchester United Forward Rashford has emerged as a late target for Emery's side during a window in which clubs have pursued both Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran. The move from Duran to Al-Nassr was confirmed on Friday, with the Saudi transfens star star closed earlier than most, while Villa hit an arsenal offer for Watkins early in the week.
Rashford is supposed to say goodbye to his teammates from Manchester United while his exit of the loan is getting closer. In contrast to the Duran deal, his move to Villa Park as the successor of the Colombians, however, is still waiting for the definitive confirmation, where the clubs are at odds at the percentage of the player's wage paid by each paid.
The Emery team was brought back to Earth on Saturday after a victory in the midweek over Celtic booked their place in the Champions League round of 16. After the game he was asked about the last with incoming players, but kept his cards close to His chest.
“I'm going to wait the last two days (from the transfer star),” Emery told Sky Sports when he was asked about Rashford. Separately speaking to BBC Sport, he recognized the need for reinforcements.
“We need some players,” said the Spaniard. “We have to replace some players who have left. Tomorrow and Monday are the last two days.
“I think we will get some players to help us, because we are in the Champions League for the last 16. We have to try to get points in the Premier League to be top eight, seven, six, five.”
Villa is said to have moved within a point of the top four with a victory at Wolves, but eventually lost 2-0 at Molineux. Jean -Ricner Bellegarde scored an early opener and – after a villa -leveler was allowed controversially – Matheus Cunha made it two in the second half of the stop time.
Emery was also forced to withdraw top scorer Watkins during the break. “He felt some pain, but hopefully not much,” the manager told BBC Sport. “We will test it tomorrow.”
Wolves star Cunha is another attacker to be linked to a Villa Park movement, but his celebration after scoring suggested that he was ready to bind his future to his current employers. The Brazilian, who remains Wolves's record signing, is expected to put pen on paper over a new deal with a release clause if the wrestlers do not beat the drop.
“He has this quality. A special player. He is dedicated to us,” manager Vorror Pereira told Sky Sports. “He knows that he can play for the best teams in England in the future, but he is committed to us.”
