Marcus Rashford shared a telling post on social media just hours before the January transfer window opened.
It appears the Manchester United star will be leaving Old Trafford in the coming weeks. He was dropped by boss Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby earlier this month.
He then admitted that he was open to a new challenge. The 27-year-old has been left out of the last three Premier League games before a shock recall against Newcastle with a place on the bench.
And now Rashford has spoken out as the January transfer window fast approaches. He shared a photo of him smiling in front of a framed United shirt and wrote: “Happy New Year. May 2025 bring you all the happiness,” alongside a red heart emoji
Rashford is likely to be one of the notable names linked with a move during the January transfer window. Boss Amorim was asked why he decided to bring back the striker against Newcastle.
He explained: “Selection. We have a lot of players outside. Every week I choose my players and this time he is here.”
And while Rashford was in the squad, he didn't play a single minute. Amorim continued on that decision, adding: “I think about the team. You think about Marcus a lot. I think about the team. When I'm there, I don't make a big deal. I just want to win the match.'
“And you feel that. I'm talking about the idea and the battle for relegation. Do I want to make a point during a match? No, I just want to win the match.”
Rashford still has three and a half years left on his contract at Old Trafford. But last month it appeared he is unlikely to serve out the remainder of that deal.
“For me personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” he told Henry Winter. “If I leave, there won't be any hard feelings. You won't get any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person.”
“If I know a situation is already bad, I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen other players leave in the past and I don't want to be that person. If I leave, I will make sure an explanation and it will be mine.”
Rashford has made 426 appearances for Man United since graduating from the club's academy. In that time he scored 138 goals and won two FA Cups and two League Cups.
