Teddy Sheringham says Marcus Rashford should apologize as he says he wants a “new challenge” away from Manchester United.
The 27-year-old, who has spent his entire career with the Red Devils, has fallen out of favor under new head coach Ruben Amorim. He was ultimately left out of United's fierce derby against Manchester City, which they eventually won 2–1 thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.
In the days that followed, Rashford told reporter Henry Winter: “For me personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps. If I leave, it will be 'no hard feelings'. You're not. If I know a situation is already bad, I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen other players leave in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave, I will make a statement and it will be mine.”
Although the forward has been linked with a number of clubs as his potential next destination, including Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and West Ham, Sheringham would prefer if Rashford apologized for his comments and tried to claw his way back to work at United.
Speaking to BoyleSports, who provide the latest Premier League odds, Sheringham said: “I think Ruben Amorim has dealt with Marcus Rashford exactly the way he feels comfortable. He is the manager. When someone starts talking like that, his mind clearly not firmly on the right track.” and if the stakes aren't solid, he won't produce his best football.
“He has given him some time and hopefully Rashford will understand that he did the wrong thing by saying things like this to the press and apologize for what he did. Hopefully he will get his head on straight and say he wants back. ” and play for United.”
Following his comments, Rashford was missing from United's EFL Cup quarter-final at Spurs, damaging Premier League losses to Bournemouth and Wolves before returning to the bench for the Red Devils' defeat to Newcastle United on 30 December. was missing from Manchester United's clash with Liverpool, resulting in a promising 2-2 draw for Amorim's side – although Amorim cited illness as the reason for Rashford's absence.
Despite the relationship between Rashford and his boss appearing to be deteriorating at the moment, the England star is currently United's joint top scorer alongside Fernandes – with four goals to his name from 15 games this season. Should Rashford find a new club during the January transfer window, Amorim could call on the services of a proven goalscorer on a permanent or temporary basis.
The Red Devils have recently been linked with the likes of Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from his parent club Napoli, PSG's Randal Kolo Muani, and Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres – who has previously worked with Amorim in Portugal, but It seems likely that it will remain there until the summer.
