Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has approved the possibility of signing Marcus Rashford this month.
The Catalan club are monitoring the situation at Old Trafford and the striker's representatives are said to have met with Barca officials as they try to facilitate a transfer for their client. Rashford announced his desire to leave Manchester United in December.
The 27-year-old has not featured for the Red Devils for a month, with Ruben Amorim failing to select Rashford for his matchday squad in all but one of his seven matches. The academy product's situation has attracted interest from the likes of AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.
Sports Reports Flick appreciates Rashford's versatility and sees him as a player who can provide some rotation for Robert Lewandowski, having previously wanted to sign him when he was in charge of Bayern Munich. However, it is said that there is no complete consensus within the Catalan club regarding the England international.
It is also claimed that Rashford would prefer a move to Barcelona. The forward has given the LaLiga giants a deadline of January 15 to make a decision on a transfer.
Barca could still face competition from AC Milan. The Serie A team is in talks with United about the prospect of a loan move.
Milan are keen to agree a loan deal for Rashford that includes an option to buy the player rather than an obligation, according to reports in Italy. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now an advisor to the Italians, suggested the club would 'see if we can talk to him'.
Amorim has admitted he is unsure if Rashford has yet made his final appearance for the Red Devils. “I don't know,” the head coach said
“I don't know, we'll see. He's a Manchester United player. We'll see.”
“He has to work. He has to represent this club and he loves this club, but I have to make choices.” [I] already talked about how I make the choices. So it is what it is.
“So let's continue. Let's see the next match. And like I said, I have a selection to make.”
Rashford's £325,000-a-week salary means a move away from Manchester won't be cheap. It is said that Barcelona would need to find £5.5 million to secure a deal.
