Maresca confirms Chelsea will enter market for new defender after Colwill injury

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the club will enter the transfer market to sign a new center-back after the injury capacity of Levi Colwill.

Colwill, 22, tore his ACL only two days after reporting for pre-season training at Chelsea, which means that he will probably miss most of the 2025-26 season.

Chelsea has options in the heart of the defense, with Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong who all participated in the plans of Maresca.

Speaking after their 2-0 pre-season friendly victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Stamford Bridge on Friday, he revealed that he still wants an addition.

He said: “It is a priority for me to get a new center back. We will see if we are going for it.”

The Premier League campaign of Chelsea starts on Sunday, August 17, against Crystal Palace.
