Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has opened the door for three Chelsea exits next month.
Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could all be heading for pastures new when the transfer window opens. The Blues are flying high, but saw a number of players training away from the first team in the summer ahead of possible transfers before returning to the squad.
Chilwell was one such player, and West London were unable to facilitate a transfer in the summer. The former Leicester City defender played just 45 minutes in the Carabao Cup this season and was not part of a Premier League squad. He received interest from Manchester United ahead of the 2024/2025 season.
Chukwuemeka has faced an identical situation domestically, but has earned more minutes in the Europa Conference League. Maresca has admitted that a move is on the horizon for both players.
“There are players who unfortunately haven't played much for us in all competitions, like Chilwell and Carney,” he said ahead of the Everton clash.
'They'll probably be the first [to say] that they want to leave because they train every day, because they want to play matches and if they don't play matches, they are probably thinking about leaving. Every player is a little bit [of a] It's a different situation, so we'll see if some of them come knocking on the door to say, 'I want to leave' or something like that. We will try to find a solution.”
Dewsbury-Hall finds himself in a more unexpected position after joining Maresca from Leicester this summer. However, the midfielder has struggled to break into the former Manchester City coach's plans.
Maresca did not rule out a move for the 26-year-old. “I can't say that, not about Kiernan, but about the whole team, because when the transfer window is open, unfortunately anything can happen,” he said.
“So I'm not focused on January. All I can say about Kiernan is we're very happy with the way he's working, we're very happy with his performance, and this is my opinion of Kiernan.”
However, the Italy boss believes some of the club's youngsters will benefit from staying at Stamford Bridge. Maresca wants Marc Guiu, Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George to continue learning with the first team.
“I think with young players like Marc, Josh and Ty for me the best thing for them is to be with us. They can understand every day how we want to play, they can grow, we can teach them how we want them to play , so I think it's better if they stay with us.
“Then it also depends a bit on the wishes of the players. If in this case Marc's wish is to get more minutes and play more, then we sit together with him and decide together.”
