Marseille president reveals why they did not sign Pogba in the winter window

Marseille -President Pablo Longoria has explained why his club has chosen not to sign Paul Pogba in the winter transfer window.

The ex-manchester United star was hit last year with a ban of four years after the failure of a drug test, but the suspension was reduced to 18 months after appeal.

Pogba was connected to various clubs in January, including Marseille, because his ban would end at the beginning of March.

However, he remains a free agent and Longoria has now revealed why Marseille chose to take a step for the midfielder.

“We had conversations and we had this chance because the player had come on the market,” Longoria told the Spanish Radio Station Cadena Ser.

'However, we decided not to do it this season because we thought that his recovery time could disturb the team's balance. And that would increase expectations. We thought it would be counterproductive. '

Despite the fact that Pogba is a free agent, French regulations for registering players that someone has signed after the winter transfer window is closed that season cannot play.

It is understood that Pogba remains highly regarded by Marseille, but he would now not be able to play for them until the start of the following season at the earliest.

In the meantime, he has also been associated with a move to the US.

Pogba has not played a competitive game since September 2023. His Juventus contract was terminated last November by mutual permission.
