Martin Zubimendi reveals Arsenal duo convinced him to make move in first words after transfer

Martin Zubimendi completed his long -awaited transfer to Arsenal from Real Sociedad and explained that the Gunners were on his agenda as soon as he decided to leave the Basque area

Martin Zubimendi has revealed that Arsenal was in his sights as soon as he made the decision to really leave Sociedad this summer, and the 'best still has to come' of the Gunners. The Spain International spent 15 years at the Basque club before completing his move to North London.

Zubimendi agrees with a £ 55 million from Real Sociedad, 12 months after rejecting a move to Liverpool. The 26-year-old has signed a five-year-old deal with the Emirates in what he has defined an important moment in his career.

The deal marks the second transfer of Arsenal of the summer and has already added Chelsea Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for £ 5 million. It is the second player to have added the North -London side of Real Sociedad in a year after the arrival of Mikel Merino last summer.

And Zubimendi is pleased to participate in his former teammate and a young, ambitious team. The midfielder hopes to help the party reach his potential.

“Once I had made the decision to leave, I aimed my sights on Arsenal because I think their playing style fits me well,” said Zubimendi in his first interview with the club.

“It is a young, highly motivated and ambitious team. They have shown their potential lately, and I believe that the best should come. As soon as you set foot here, you realize how big this club and this team are. Andrea [Berta] and Mikel [Arteta] Took great care of me and left me without a doubt.

“This is a huge moment in my career. It is the move I was looking for; one that I wanted to make. Of course it's a big change, but I'm ready to start.”

Zubimendi has already played together with Arsenal -star Merino and club captain Martin Odegaard. “I am happy to be here with them,” he said.

“I have played many games over the years. It is important because it will make the transition much easier for me, and I am sure they will be a big help.”

And with New Boss Arteta who grew up in San Sebastian who played for Antiguoko and also played for Sociedad, there are similarities to think for Zubimendi. He said: “We have a lot in common.

“We come from the same city and played for the same teams. We have something to talk about the field about, I am happy with that.”
