Martinelli shares heartwarming moment with Ian Wright after scoring v Eagles

Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli shared a heartwarming moment with Gunners legend Ian Wright after scoring against Crystal Palace.

Martinelli was on target as Mikel Arteta's side secured a 5-1 victory at Selhurst Park.

Gabriel Jesus scored a brace, while Kai Havertz and Declan Rice also found the net.

Martinelli has received a lot of criticism for some of his performances this season.

The 23-year-old has now scored five goals for Arsenal this season, four of which have come in the Premier League.

Although he had some problems, Martinelli impressed against Palace after replacing the injured Bukayo Saka.

One person who has never lost faith in Martinelli's abilities is Wright, who scored 185 goals for Arsenal between 1991 and 1998.

Martinelli thanked Wright for sending a message of support this week.

As reported by the Premier League, Martinelli told Wright: 'You have played the game, you know how difficult it is to be in this side, and I would like to thank you for the message you sent me recently. It means a lot to me.

“Like I said, this is really good to score and win the game and it's an honor, like I said, to receive like this, the one you sent me. So thank you again, it means a lot to me.”

With Saka suffering a hamstring problem, Martinelli could now be ready for a series of games on the right wing.

Martinelli typically plays on the left flank, where he competes for a starting spot alongside Leandro Trossard.

The winger's hard work and enthusiasm have never been in question, but he has looked slightly frustrated at times this season.

Martinelli will hope the impact he made against Palace now will give him a confidence boost going forward.
