Match of the Day host leads fan fury at Lewis-Skelly’s Arsenal red card

Mark Chapman led anger and surprise of fans when Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent after one of the “worst decisions ever”.

The Arsenal midfielder was just outside his own area when he stumbled Matt Doherty cynically and saw red in a 1-0 win at Wolves.

Surprised viewers initially wondered if Lewis -Skelly was rejected for denying a clear score – even though it was so far away.

But a Premier League statement later clarified that VAR had checked for “serious false game” – with the decision of referee Michael Oliver confirmed.

A fan posted: “I am completely for the fact that Arsenal has a beast, but that is never a red card, one of the worst decisions I've ever seen.”

The Prem statement was: “The call from the referee of a red card for Lewis-Skelly was checked and confirmed by VAR, who considered his challenge as a serious fault game.”

After full -time, Boss Arteta addressed that he “smelled” over the red card.

He said: 'It is so clear that I leave it to you. I am absolutely smoking, but I leave it with you – because it is so clear. I don't think my words will help.

“I think it is so clear that we don't need any comments today and hopefully the right will happen after today.

“Hopefully we don't have to (appeal) and, if we have done that [to]It happened and it is really a good precedent, which also happened to Bruno this season.

“So, hopefully, okay, we were in a position in which we should not be. At least let's be in a position where we should be in the coming weeks and that player will continue to do his work.”
