Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has been handed a two-match ban and an £80,000 fine following the incident after full-time in the match against Ipswich.
Cunha was involved in an altercation with a member of the Ipswich staff after the end of the Premier League match on December 14 and the FA moved to charge the Brazil international with “improper conduct”.
The incident came after Jack Taylor scored a late winner for Ipswich, who are also fighting for Premier League survival, in Gary O'Neil's last game before being relieved of his role as Wolves boss.
Wolves have won four of their nineteen games and are seventeenth in the Premier League.
Analysis: Cunha ban is a big blow for Wolves
Cunha has been the bright spot for Wolves this season, so it is almost impossible to overestimate how damaging his absence could be to the club's hopes of Premier League survival. His eight goals only tell part of the story.
It was Cunha's dramatic late equalizer at Brighton that ended a run of five consecutive defeats. It was Cunha's long-range strike that secured their first win of the season against Southampton, having already provided the assist for the opening goal of the match.
And it was Cunha's two glorious goals against Fulham that helped Wolves to what remains their only other Premier League win this season. His team has had problems at the other end of the pitch, but is eighth among the highest scorers thanks to Cunha.
O'Neil liked to talk about the tactical work it took to make Cunha a better player, but the truth is that the Brazilian remains a ready-made performer, a maverick capable of magical moments born of his own imagination and not from the training. ground.
“I'm a Brazilian and a very emotional boy,” he told Sky Sports last summer. Now that emotion has gotten the better of him and will keep him out of some important games for his club. Wolves struggled with Cunha. Without him their task seems more difficult.
There are options for new boss Vitor Pereira. Goncalo Guedes has hinted he could play a bigger role, while Hee-Chan Hwang is still hoping to rediscover his form from last season. But there is no one capable of what Cunha is capable of. At Wolves or away.Adam Bate
