Tottenham Forward Mathys Tel wasted a golden one-on-one chance during the preseason of Spurs on Sunday with Newcastle.
The side of Thomas Frank was held into a 1-1 draw in the last game of their Far East Tour-a competition that can poetically mark the goodbye to son Heung-Min for the club, after his announced departure on Saturday in his home country in South Korea.
Brennan Johnson scored the only goal of Spurs of the game and opened the score within seven minutes, before Harvey Barnes withdrew late in the first half for Newcastle.
Before that Tel had a huge opportunity to double the lead of Spurs after he was played by Pedro Porro.
The French attacker gathered the ball near the line halfway and loaded in the direction of the Newcastle Box.
When he entered the penalty area, he tried a stepover Feint for Nick Pope with the wrong foot – but the goalkeeper read it easily and Tel's Tame finish was stored without hassle.
Tottenham fans went to social media to lie in their peaks, with many who fear that Tel's Miss might be a sign of struggles to come next season. A supporter wrote on X: “It is a previous season, but that was pretty terrible!”
A second commented: 'should have broken it down or have to go around the keeper. Terrible decision -making. '
A third asked: 'How does he not finish that? Give you little confidence that he will get figures again. '
Another said: “That is why he is nowhere close to the required Premier League level. Million Mills Miles removed from a top player. '
With their draw against Newcastle, Spurs expanded their undefeated preseason run, after recently defeated Rivals Arsenal 1-0. Their other games yielded two draw – against Luton and Wycombe – and a victory against reading.
Frank's men are facing Bayern Munich in a pre-season-friendly in the Allianz Arena next Thursday, before they were removed in the Super Cup final on 13 August against Paris Saint-Germain in the Super Cup final.
Their Premier League season then starts home only three days later to Burnley.
