Mathys Tel believes that Tottenham was “the best option” after he chose to reject the interest of Manchester United and Arsenal.
In the last days of the transfer window it became clear that Tel Bayern would leave Munich, where he struggled for playing time. A large number of Premier League parties are striving for his signature, but it was those on the white half of North Londs who eventually won the race in the eleventh hour.
Tel initially goes to Tottenham on loan, but the club can later make the move permanent along the line. The Frenchman originally said no to go to the side of Ange Postecoglou, but a phone call from the Australian manager helped to turn his head.
Arsenal and United did not succeed in supporting their first interest with the Red Devils who chose to pay the loan costs that Bayern wanted. Tel has cited the desire and dedication of Tottenham as a real difference maker when making his choice.
He said: “Why I chose Tottenham, because that was the best option for me, which was important to me. I felt the dedication, I spoke with the president [chairman Daniel Levy]spoke with the manager. I am young, I started to grow up and this was the best option for me and I am very happy.
“I am very enthusiastic to play with my teammates, for the fans. That is a new challenge for me, a new chapter to open. Very enthusiastic about it.”
Tel also asked for advice from two of his former Bayern colleagues – Harry Kane and Eric Dier. The duo has more than 800 performances for Tottenham between them and spoke glowing about the prospect of moving to North Londs.
“They said, if you want to work here, you have everything,” Tel. “You can enjoy it. That's good for me, because it's a good opportunity to work, to learn every day … that's what they told me.”
Tottenham needed new recruits with the shape of the club for the past two months and saw them falling past the table. They are now in 14th place after just two wins in 12, but the arrival of Tel can help add more speed to their attack.
The teenager explained what he thinks he can bring the team while he added: “I think I am a physical player, fast, technical. I play every moment, every game with my heart. I live with this pressure. I. I Always push myself to go up and look ahead. “
